Tom Live Around the World

As you can tell by the photo, I’m working really hard over here in Europe this week! πŸ™‚

Actually, the photo is just me taking a break. I really am working hard and looking forward to the time I’ll get to spend with some great artists.

I’m traveling in Europe with my lovely wife, and with my attorney and my private pilot (actually, my neighbors – but I have used their legal and piloting services in the past!).

First stop for us is the by:Larm festival in Oslo, Norway, a festival/conference that’s been around for 15 years. In addition to concerts, they have seminars and panels for the artists. I’ll be teaching 2 classes; and my friend from Nashville, songwriter Ralph Murphy (VP of Int’l & Domestic Membership, ASCAP), is speaking here, too.

I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Nordic bands! Artists playing here this week include Gus Gus, The Field, Korallreven, WhoMadeWho, and Renaissance Man, among others.

Then I’ll go on to Copenhagen to work with some of Denmark’s best and brightest artists including Song for Wendy, Lilyphone, Von DΓΌ, and more. I’m doing a workshop that will include putting a few of them onstage and giving them a Live Music Makeover.

After that, I’ll be going to work with some of the military’s pop/rock bands in Germany. The army base in Heidelberg is bringing me in to help them take their bands’ live shows up a notch or two.

We’ve had an unbelievably mild winter in the States, but now I am experiencing where the cold weather has gone! It’s over here. I’m hoping to do some dogsledding, go shopping, see the Northern lights, and downing a few pints of German beer (to keep me warm, of course!).

And here’s my final thoughts on this “across the ocean” trip – Lo and behold, it doesn’t matter where in the world I go… the artists/bands that do the best shows at these events: 1) create the most buzz, 2) get more interest from the industry, 3) find people who want to support and promote them, and 4) generate momentum for their career!

How about you? Where are you this month and where is your live show going?

  1. Right now we are just doing a show or two a month, Videoing and seeing how each step of rehearsal is adding to the look, feel and response of audiences. Doing this both for myself, solo and for the band shows. We are in the works for setting dates at Disney Florida and some other places so we are using each gig as a marker of how putting your stuff into action is doing. So far we are getting dropped jaws from folks who have known us forever and plenty of new fans, cd sales and energy all the way around. Still have a ton of work to do but nice to see it taking such cool steps forward. Das enough for now! Take care and stay warm!

  2. Have a safe trip Tom and Company! When I went in the army years ago I chose to work in the medical field. Once I was in and got to experience the army bands’ performances, I wished I had signed up for band or chose to study a language and been a translater . I did get stationed in Germany, first assigned to Landstuhl Army Medical Center (American hospital where all of our wonded are brought from the wars) and then attached to a field hospital in Baumholder, Germany where a large concentration of American combat troops were stationed. Those getting stationed in Heidelberg consider it a luxury assignment. So enjoy your time there Mr. & Mrs.J. and Co.! / I’m happy to have signed up to attend another TJP Bootcamp being held in downtown Nashville in September. If you love music and all the potential it has, attending a TJP Bootcamp is more fun than going on any vacation…in my humble opinion. / While in Germany, don’t forget to try the German goolash/gulash (heck, forgot spelling)!
