Got Problems? The Song Docs have Answers

The Bloody Five

Recently we ran a Facebook contest for a chance to ask Tom a question. But did you know we answer questions like this all the time Backstage?

Jay Appleby of The Bloody Five entered the contest, asking about a slow song his band plays regularly, and I thought it might be helpful to show all of you how this works for everyone in our Backstage Pass community.

The band was having trouble creating a moment (partly because of having to move a keyboard), so I told Jay:

“First off, without hearing the song and going by your description, Jay, it sounds like this is a ‘touching’ moment in your set, so I’ll approach it with that in mind. Let’s talk logistics first. You said you have to carry the keyboard out front. Is there a place slightly back and to the side that would work to leave it? That would be ideal and less hassle, but I understand if you are playing on a really tiny stage it makes sense to bring it out for one song.”

I went on to explain to Jay how they might work around the problem with their set up of the song, directing the audience’s attention, or even by changing the placement in the set. Then I suggest a solution to another problem they have with how their song starts. Here’s the full question and my answers: … Read More, Watch, Comment – Backstage Pass Required
