When I talk to people in the music industry about what I do, inevitably I run across people who say, “I know someone who does what you do!” Because what they’re thinking about is the visual. They may know a choreographer, a performance coach, or a vocal coach who helps someone hold the mic properly. There are even quite a few who dabble a little bit with moving people around the stage.
That’s why I often am erroneously labeled a “performance coach.” But I’m not a performance coach. I’m a Live Music Producer.
The process of putting a show together in rehearsal, for me, always begins with the music — rearranging the songs and creating the moments. After we’ve found the themes, developed the moments, and rearranged the song, then we take the time to deal with the visual diversity of the show, making it interesting and captivating.
