Don’t Stop Before You’re Done: Reshaping Your Songs
Songwriters use creativity to write songs. They get ideas, they start throwing those ideas down on paper, they write and rewrite until they’ve got the basic form. But what if they stopped there?
Those songs need to be edited and reformed. Even in the recording studio, they continue to be edited and worked on. Songwriters know this.
It’s the same with songs you’re planning on performing live.
If you take your songs and just start throwing down some of your ideas about how and when to play them, but never go any farther than that, they will be poor to mediocre at best.
You need to sift through and find the best ideas – the really magical ones. You need to organize, edit, and put it in a form. But even that’s still only potential. Now you’ve got something that’s average.
