Building Depth & Building a Career: Keith Andrew Grim

Keith Andrew GrimKeith Andrew Grim, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter from Dallastown, Pennsylvania, has been making a strong & steady growth in his concerts and his career.

For the last 24 years, Keith has played at churches and community events, giving his audiences a mix of acoustic guitar & vocals influenced by folk/pop, classic rock, country, and classical music.

Along with this depth of style, Keith’s live show has undergone changes since working with one of the Tom Jackson team 3 years ago. While attending a Nashville music conference, Keith arranged to meet with live music producer Amy Wolter. Little by little he began to invest the time in his live show to create a better experience for his audiences.

The growth in repeat and new bookings has shown. Keith says, “In 2013 I played about 35 gigs at various churches, community events, Christian coffee houses, and Christian music festivals. I played events in Pennsylvania (my home state), Maryland, and West Virginia.” With Easter being one of his busiest seasons, Keith felt compelled to write a Passion Play Guitar Cantata, “The Lord of Lords Is Risen Today,” which he has presented several times at various churches.

He has also presented a Christmas cantata, and remains busy playing at various churches and community events during the Christmas season.

Keith says he finds Tom’s Graph and numbering system is working well for his live shows. But mostly, he’s learned how to create moments that really connect. He added some praise songs to his set, songs about life, heart wrenching songs, a little comedy, and even some covers. “One cover that really works well is Keith Green’s The Lord Is My Shepherd,” states Keith, “and a real audience favorite is an a cappella version of God Bless America!”

Keith has created a depth to his concert that he hadn’t realized was possible. “Being part guitarist, part vocalist, and part songwriter, I think I have begun to create the right balance of these things in concerts. It is a delicate balance to play my instrumental music, my vocal music, and to add a little comedy to concert,” shares Keith. “I am beginning to understand how to combine all of these things to create moments in a concert.”

As a songwriter, Keith was honored to recently be commissioned to write a song based on Jeremiah 29:11 (about God giving a hope and a future) for a church building project.

What else does Keith do for fun? Well, he enjoys taking in a lot of live concerts himself. “In 2013, I saw Phil Keaggy, Cheri Keaggy, Big Time Rush, Victoria Justice, and the Jonas Brothers. (Ok, I have a teenage daughter, so that’s how I got to some of the concerts, but I have to admit I enjoyed them all!)”

Keith has played venues from New York to Colorado and many of the states states in between! If you’d like to catch Keith live, check out his Calendar…

  1. Thanks, Amy! It is still a work in progress, but I am taking a few more risks now, some work, some bomb, but at least I am not afraid to experiment now.

  2. Way to go Keith! It’s good to see you continue to grow and challenge yourself onstage.
