Seth Glier: Doing “The Next Right Thing”

When singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist/Grammy® nominee Seth Glier steps up to the mic, he wants his audience to do more than hear songs… he wants to help them experience a life change. For Seth, seeking to do “The Next Right Thing” has more to do with a way of life than a mere album or song title.

Seth hit our radar a few months ago when he asked if there might be a place for him in our artist Tour Support Program, representing a charity and helping impoverished children and their families across the globe. Performing 250+ shows a year and having a passion for helping others placed this indie artist front and center as a perfect representative for ChildFund International!

“It’s a humbling thrill each night to represent ChildFund on this tour,” says Seth. “Music is supposed to inspire us to action. To me ChildFund is so much more than a charity… it is justice on every account.”

Seth has more than a passing interest in justice. He is working to affect a change in people’s thinking. “Each one of us is presented with the opportunity every day to do the next right thing, but we rarely take the time,” Seth says. “For a society so obsessed with being a part of something greater than ourselves, we are really quick to let our own fears and indifference shut the door on our intentions.” Check out Seth’s expression of those thoughts in this video of song single “The Next Right Thing”:

And here’s some good news about Seth’s work: in less than 5 weeks, he has introduced 100s of audience members to ChildFund and already acquired 27 sponsorships for children in need!

He attributes the success in part to Tom Jackson’s Tour Support Training videos and teaching. Not having visited a ChildFund project personally, Seth was looking for a real story that could help him connect his audience to the work ChildFund does. He watched Tom’s training video on “Your Appeal From the Stage” and immediately found his story!

Not only that, the videos taught Seth a simple, yet effective technique for moving his audience to action. “Things really clicked for me when Tom said in the video, ‘Audiences are ignorant, not stupid – just ignorant. They need to be told what what to do.'”

Seth explains, “That was the moment I started bringing the ChildFund packet up on stage with me and pulling out the envelope in the back explaining to the audience what they need to do in order to make a difference. Once I showed my audience what to do, it was the difference between one sign up a night and 5!”

Seth Glier has shared the stage with artists as diverse as James Taylor, Ani DiFranco, Martin Sexton, Emmylou Harris and Ryan Adams, and has quickly become known for his passionate live sets. His music has also caught the ears of fans, industry and critics alike with USA Today stating that his “exquisite tenor echoes Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.”

The incredible acclaim on his sophomore record, The Next Right Thing, led to the single “Lauralee” hitting #1 on Clear Channel’s NEW! Discover & Uncover program as well as a Grammy® nomination, a first for both himself and his New York based label, MPress Records.

His latest album on MPress Records, Things I Should Let You Know is steeped in all the most gorgeous aspects of Americana, folk, blues, pop and soul with each of the 13 tracks it encompasses, telling its own story, weaving tales of love, pain and epic self-realization from a young man coming into his own, all wrapped in sweeping melodies and striking vocals.

We’re so glad Seth Glier asked about being a part of our Artist Tour Support team, and we can’t wait to see the changes this young man will make in a world who needs to hear his message!
