Opportunities at Broadjam: A Visit with Mike Huberty

Recently, I spent some time visiting with Mike Huberty of Broadjam.

Mike and Roy Elkins (Broadjam’s founder and CEO), have been friends of Tom Jackson for quite a few years. I wanted to know more about what they do and how Broadjam helps artists.

Broadjam provides web-based promotional tools and services for independent musicians, the music industry, and fans around the world.

One of the world’s largest web communities focused on independent music, Broadjam.com hosts a massive online database of searchable songs by artists from all 50 U.S. states and over 150 countries worldwide.

What started as a business model to streamline and simplify the process of songwriters getting their original music out to as many people as possible, has turned into so much more! For instance, in addition to being able to sell music, deliver songs to prospective buyers (film & TV supervisors, radio stations, etc.), and enlarge a fan base, Broadjam’s Pro Reviewer section allows writers to gain valuable input from professional songwriters, publishers, producers, and other industry. You can host a website at Broadjam, enter one of their regularly occurring contests, network with other artists & industry, and more.

When I asked Mike how Broadjam differed from other artist community websites, he responded, “When you send your song to a Broadjam opportunity, it’s going straight to the music supervisor, publisher, or record label executive. No middleman making a decision about your track. It’s 100% guaranteed they’ll listen.”

It seems to be working, too! “We have about 3-4 songs being selected per day to go into shows, films, and music libraries, so there’s definitely something happening every day,” says Mike. “We have hundreds of successes already though and musicians can see some of them at our Licensing Successes page.”

Mike is Artist Services Manager at Broadjam. He deals with publishers and music supervisors who are providing these opportunities and listings for Broadjam members. “I also help interpret the listings, find similar artists, and try to give our musicians as much information as I possibly can so that they can get the best chance of getting their music licensed,” explains Mike.

It isn’t surprising that Mike is anxious to help musicians find a way to increase their visibility. He’s been playing music since junior high and has been in the same band, Sunspot, since 1996. He sings, plays bass, helps artists, and has a passion for writing songs.

As Mike says, “I love to help find a place for great music in the world.” And he knows Broadjam is a great way to do it. “Broadjam is about transparency and finding ways to get you going with your music career, connecting songwriters/artists with music industry professionals who are looking for their music.”

If you aren’t currently a member of Broadjam, you can get a free 6-month Film/TV membership exclusively for our Backstage Pass members. Check out this Backstage Deal for details…

  1. Thanks for this reminder about Broadjam, Jodi. Great reminder and a great opportunity.

    • You’re welcome, Leanne! My visit with Mike was interesting, and I was glad to get to know him. Have you ever used their Pro Reviewer section to get feedback on a song? They’ve asked Tom & the team to sign up as Pro Reviewers as well, so soon you’ll see us back there, too, giving Pro Reviews on live performances of songs!
