Stripping It Down: Letting Your Songs Get Naked

I’m sure you’ve thought about or tried doing acoustic versions of your songs. If if you haven’t, you need to! Sometimes your gig will dictate you must go acoustic… there simply may not be enough room on a small stage for all your players.

Less is more can definitely be amazing, and it creates a great moment whether you’re on a small stage or not. But sometimes we’re afraid or unsure of just how to ‘strip down’.

You may have heard about Lennon and Maisy, singing daughters of CCMA Video of the Year winners The Stellas, a Canadian couple I had the chance to work with several years ago.

The girls are now on the ABC hit show Nashville as Maddie & Daphne Conrad, daughters of country singer Rayna James and Teddy-the-Mayor. They were discovered from a simple video they shot, that was getting thousands of hits (now up over 13 million!), in which they sing Call Your Girlfriend (Robyn), accompanied only by claps and butter tubs.
