Divine Brown Performing on Tom Jackson Panel at CMW

Divine Brown

Canadian singer Divine Brown has been confirmed as the selected artist for Tom Jackson’s “Live Music Makeover” panel at Canadian Music Week, on Saturday March 12, from 4-6pm.

Divine and her band will be performing two of their newest hits; then Tom will break down the arrangement of one of those songs to demonstrate the effectiveness of his Live Music Methods in helping artists connect emotionally with their audience.

For years, musical powerhouse Divine Brown has been quietly carving out her own history on the Canadian R&B and soul circuit. A kid who used to mimic the greats (Chaka! Aretha!) she heard on scratchy vinyl and filtered through radio waves, Divine paid her dues on the Toronto club circuit before she was old enough to legally hang out in bars, then honed her skills as a live performer with stints on the musical theatre stage, busting moves and belting her heart out as a cast member of shows like Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Rent.

Divine’s effervescent energy and formidable stage presence – not to mention her mind-blowing vocal range – made her a star before she finally released her much-anticipated self-titled debut album in 2005 which cemented Divine’s reputation as one of the country’s strongest urban talents.

Three years later, Divine returned with a tour-de-force album, a virtual trip through both the last half-century of soul music and the roller-coaster ride of love dubbed – appropriately – The Love Chronicles and in 2009 she won a Juno Award for best R&B recording.

Divine recently peaked at #14 on the US Billboard Dance Chart with her hit single, ‘Sunglasses – Cajjmere Remix’. She is currently recording her third album titled Something Fresh, scheduled for release in Spring 2011. The album will feature Fresh, Foxy and Fearless R&B/Pop tracks including a few hot reggae riddims recently recorded at Geejam Studio in Jamaica.
