That Was MY Idea
Oftentimes I hear one member of a band say “that was MY idea,” and the guitar player says “no, that was MY idea,” and someone else says “hey, I’M the one who thought of it”…and I’m thinking “who cares?”
One of the most maddening and counter-productive posturing that can happen when I’m working with an artist is when everyone is clamoring for credit!
It’s a common trait in us humans to want to be recognized, to be considered valuable – and one way to feel that self-worth is having people recognize that the ideas we contribute are very important.
In my experience, the funny thing (not “ha-ha” funny) is that the higher up the food chain, the bigger the artist, the more important the celebrity … the more this attitude is prevalent.
