AJ Jansen: Creative Drive in a Winning Package

AJ JansenTalented. Edgy. Driven.

Singer/songwriter AJ Jansen, whose style and voice have been compared to Jewel, Shania Twain, & Stevie Nicks, grew up in New England, being influenced by music at an early age.

She began performing at age 6 and writing songs at age 10. At 18, she performed to an audience of 500… then 3,000… and those numbers kept going up as her career took off!

After 4 CDs, rave reviews & feature stories by magazines like Country Music Weekly, and various TV appearances, AJ continues to promote her music, commuting north and south between Connecticut and Nashville.

Music, to AJ, means bringing her country and rock roots influences, and giving them new meaning with her own unique sound. You can easily hear those influences in “Bars, Scars and Old Guitars” (get a free download of the song here…):

AJ has been a regular featured artist at Mohegan Sun Casino, working with artists such as Phil Vasser. She has also performed and directed her own musical Tribute Show “Outlaw Women of Country” in many theaters up and down the East Coast. She hopes to someday grace the Grand Ole Opry with a performance!

Awards for AJ include National American Country Music Association–International Female Horizon’s Vocalist of the Year, as well as Connecticut Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year. She was nominated for Country Act of the Year in 2014 by the New England Music Awards. And, after a benefit performance for the 46th Special Forces Company, she received an appreciation plaque from the unit.

I had the pleasure of meeting AJ on one of her recent trips to Nashville. We discussed connecting her with a charity through our Artist Tour Support Program so that she can earn money to continue promoting her music while helping others. AJ’s winning smile and open heart was engaging, to say the least!

Although she’s had many memorable performances, AJ says her most memorable was at David’s House, a charity for young cancer patients and their families. “They asked me to come and sit with the children, and sing them a few songs,” says AJ. “I didn’t know how I would react; it was my first try at doing anything like this. But interacting with the kids and seeing the smiles on their faces, that was a moment that reassured me why I do music and why I love entertaining. It makes you appreciate what you have in life.”

AJ is particularly creative with promotion and products she offers. She will soon be launching a drink named after her song “Dirty Country,” along with a blog on her website.

She looks forward to a great upcoming year promoting and touring. AJ has been using Tom Jackson’s Method, creating moments and actually taking the time to “craft” her show.

“It’s made me a better performer,” says AJ, “giving direction to my band and the musicians I work with.” She also believes that Tom’s set list Graph has been a definite plus for her. “The audience attention span is in tune longer with my shows, and they leave feeling entertained and part of the AJ Jansen Experience!”
