4 Tips to Using a Microphone (the right way!)
Oh, how distracting it can be!
The singer holds the mic with both hands like they’re clinging to it for dear life. Another singer holds it right at the top and has it so close to them you can barely see their face. Then there are the “tappers” – the ones who keep a rhythm on the mic with the hand holding it by tapping their fingers to the beat.
I don’t want to bog you down and make you think that how you hold the mic is the most important thing about your show. No sense majoring in the minors! Learning to create moments is much more important than learning how to hold the mic.
But there are some techniques that can be helpful and keep you from creating a distraction, looking uncomfortable, or (at the worst) totally losing your authority on stage from a simple fundamental mistake that’s easily corrected.
