Bootcamp September 2013

Where can you find a 13-year-old singer from Mississippi, a 65+ songwriter from Tennessee, a rootsy soul artist from Australia, a brother/sister duo from Canada, an electro-Latin-lounge singer from Nashville, and about 80 other unique artists and industry all in one place?

At the annual 2-day Tom Jackson Bootcamp in Nashville!

This year’s event at The Foundry (in what we have unanimously dubbed “the art district” of Nashville) was a success in numerous ways – in learning, networking, confidence-building encouragement, and just plain old fun!

Tom’s session on Confidence, his Live Music Method class, the Artist Makeovers, how to Graph a set list, Conquering the Small Stage, and more, were informative and entertaining.

During the 2-day Bootcamp, Brett Manning of Singing Success and Bob Baker of TheBuzzFactor.com, both gave helpful & creative solutions for vocal success and indie marketing.

Artists used in the class demonstrations were happy to take some risks and help everyone in attendance get a visual of what “rehearsal” should really look like.

And in the Saturday night showcases, 11 performing soloists and groups let an industry panel do live critiques so that every attendee could get a feel for what labels, A&R, managers, and more might be looking for.

On the industry panel were Tom Jackson & his associates, Bob Baker, Jackie Patillo (president of GMA), and Sophie Harris.

Our Top Performer awards (given to artists who show potential) went to Claudia Norris and Mia Calderon, Anna Morgan Michel (career coaching with Steve Grossman), Brooke Turner, Solveig and Stevie (voice lesson with Brett Manning Studios), and Joy Chadwell (GMA membership & 2 tickets to this year’s Dove Awards show).

Section 101, who had planned on giving a Top Performer a free website design & 60 day free trial, surprised the crowd with a free design & 60 day hosting deal for every attendee!

Toby Hancock from Stickers and More was in attendance, and offered a custom t-shirt printing to 1 artist in a random drawing. Other drawings and giveaways came from various artist resource companies and individuals.

As one Bootcamp attendee said, “this was the best event I’ve ever been to … it was so great being here!”

And everyone on Tom Jackson’s team agrees – it was great being there with all you awesome artists!

Mark your calendars for next year’s Tom Jackson Bootcamp in Nashville… Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, 2014.

  1. I really had a wonderful time being surrounded by others that are as passionate as I am about sharing and connecting with an audience. I learned more than would fit and stay in my brain. I can’t wait to carve out some time to hit your backstage website and re-affirm some of the knowledge that was shared. I also can’t wait to have some downtime in my schedule to start putting it all to good use. Everyone on the Tom Jackson team was so personable, knowledgeable and giving of themselves and it was really appreciated! A great big thank you to each of you!!! 🙂
