Time to Shine: Dawn King Inspires

When it comes right down to it, Dawn King‘s life is a love story. Her tale is one filled with a love for life, a love for family and friends, and a type of love that is sadly missing in many people’s lives: self-love.

But one of the most meaningful aspects of this love story is the life she shares with her husband, Robert King.

“When Robert and I first met, we knew we found the person we wanted to love and cherish and be with for the rest of our lives,” Dawn says. “When we discovered our mutual love for music, it unleashed even more of the passion we shared for life, song, and each other.”

You could call it a modern-day fairytale, fate, or just mere coincidence. But Dawn calls it “one King-size love.”

“Robert and I face struggles just like every couple, and we have our own individual interests,” she explains, “But we both also realize we’re stronger together as partners in life.”

Based out of Vernon, British Columbia, in Canada, the Kings have gone through a few name and genre changes, playing everything from rock to country to swing. Their many years of performing for diverse groups have helped them hone their craft as performers and songwriters.

These days, Dawn is the lead singer and public face of this musical union. Robert is the primary songwriter who thrives most when he is either in the recording studio or coming alive onstage as a performer.

Robert wrote all but one of the songs on Dawn’s new album, It’s Time to Shine. It’s a heart-tugging, foot-stomping collage of tracks encompassing pop, rock, and country, yet always showcasing her voice, which has drawn comparisons to Reba McEntire, Toni Tennille, and Linda Ronstadt.

The lone country song on the album “Nothin’ But The Truth” has been chosen to be played on all Canadian Country Music stations:

Dawn says, “My hope is that all the songs on this album will make you smile, open your heart and leave you feeling inspired. I like to call it rockin’, poppin’ music that inspires you to live your best life!”

Although the album is not officially out until August 1, 2013, the Kings held a sold out pre-release concert, which already garnered fabulous sales.

Dawn credits Tom Jackson’s Live Music Method book and 1-on-1 rehearsals as having been a big help in that regard: “After spending time rehearsing and reading Tom’s book, not only was our concert a sell-out, but the actual feedback from fans was a 9.5 out of 10.” Dawn went on to say, “due to the new help I received and the weeks of rehearsal we were able to totally engage our audience, create a moment for every song, and sell loads of CD’s with everyone asking them to be autographed!”

There will be more great news from this inspiring artist, you can be sure. Dawn has been a vocal finalist 2 months in a row with Singer Universe, and she was recently featured as an artist in the Okanagan Women’s Magazine.

And if singing isn’t enough, Dawn’s encouragement flows over into the work she does as a life coach, vocal instructor, and athlete (representing Canada at the 2012 World Triathlon in Auckland, New Zealand). In fact, Dawn’s music video for “The Real Me” from her new album It’s Time to Shine was filmed in Kalamalka Provincial Park, where she frequently runs and swims.

As Dawn says about this track, it really “grabs you and pulls you in without reservation… building from the dark places we all have been, to the uplifting places we can all go” – check out the video:

Dawn King is an emerging Canadian artist with a heart for others. She has a complete ‘go for it’ attitude! She and husband Robert have put together a great collection of songs pulling from her diverse influences of Rock, R&B, Country, and Pop and created an engaging recording. The lyrics are heartfelt and honest. Check out ‘It’s Time To Shine!'”
