Making It a Great Experience: My Job and Yours!

I’ve got some exciting news… but first I want you to do this:

Imagine yourself walking into an event; you don’t know where you are assigned to sit, you are way under dressed, the smell of rotting garbage lingers in the air, there is background music playing while the band is doing sound check (and you showed up late!). What a terrible beginning to your evening.

It doesn’t matter what type of function you attend… everything you see, feel, hear, smell, taste, all of your surroundings, can alter your experience.

A main focus of any event planner should be the guest’s experience. Not much different than putting on a great show! There is a lot of prep work that goes into any event, but it is the details that set you apart from the rest.

The prep work can be especially fun when there’s new inspiration, like I have this month! I’ve got some exciting news (did I mention that already?) … but more on that in a minute…

I fell into event planning during college and realized I was a natural at it. Trying to anticipate a person’s expectations and trying to reasonably meet them is a fun challenge for me.

While anticipating a person’s needs comes easy to me, I continue to work on the necessary networking and endless spreadsheets that are often overlooked by guests.

I also love the interaction, the opportunity to get to know folks, especially artists. The opportunity to build relationships and be a part of equipping artists with tools they need to be successful is very satisfying. The chance to hear a new story and create a memorable experience for any of my guests is invigorating!

It’s why I enjoy planning workshops and bootcamps for Tom Jackson Productions. I look forward to meeting artists like you. At one Nashville Bootcamp I met an artist’s family from near my hometown in Louisiana (they contributed a fabulous local bakery’s King Cake to our lunch buffet table – if you’re from Louisiana you know what I mean!). Another time I was captivated by a young mom’s passion and strength as an artist who survived a brain tumor while pregnant; and one of my favorite characters to have met was a dance track artist from NYC.

Now the exciting news: this June 22 will be my first event outside of the United States! (Woo Hoo!) Tom Jackson Productions is hosting a Road Show Bootcamp near Edmonton, AB in Canada. If you’re from the Alberta area, you really should check it out here…

I’ve known for a long time I’d be an event planner. But to say I’m now an international event planner – how cool is that! OK, Canadian artists, let’s make this event a great one!!
