Myths About Spontaneity, Part 1
I had been on a conference call with 5 other people I was going to see at the CMJ Music Conference. We had been asked to be part of a panel called “Stage Diving 101” about the importance of the live show. The moderator wanted all of us on the same page before the conference.
It is always… well… I’ll say “interesting” to get other people’s perspective of what makes a great live show (particularly those in the industry). On the phone was a manager and promoter, a front man in a fairly popular indie band, plus a drummer in one of the biggest all-time rock acts in history.
A couple of things came up in the conversation that I thought were worth addressing here because I think they are common issues.
One of the comments made was that all the artists attending can’t really do a great show because their music doesn’t call for jumping around stage.
