New Music Seminar Limited Time Savings

As my friend Tom Silverman, executive director of the New Music Seminar says: Honey, they shrunk the record business…Tom just emailed me with some good news and some bad news.

First the bad news. The latest year-to-date numbers show U.S. album sales down 13.3% while the inflation-adjusted dollar value of the record business is falling to below 1967 levels. Even more heads are being chopped at every label to try to compensate for the continuing revenue decline.

Now the good news. An entirely new profitable and sustainable music business is being designed and built right now. The New Music Seminar convenes the architects and engineers of that new business and I invite you to join us.

The New Music Seminar has grown to two days and 3 nights. It takes place immediately following the Grammys and right before the NBA All Star Game weekend in Los Angeles on February 14-16 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel so there will be even more opportunities for networking.

I’m really excited about being a part of this conference! I’ll be teaching a hands-on class, putting a band onstage and fixing their live show. In addition, you’ll experience:

  • The symphony of five “movements” (focused discussions)
  • Focus Panels on Hip Hop and Rock
  • 12 18-minute Intensives (presentations) from key industry leaders
  • 22 mentoring sessions
  • Daily musical performances
  • Summit Meetings
  • Workshops on Production, Singing/Rapping, and Songwriting
  • Essential exhibits with offers to increase exposure and revenues
  • Networking opportunities all day and night

NMS Speakers in the past have included: Alexandra Patsavas (Chop Shop), Rodney Jerkins (Darkchild), Jason Bentley (KCRW), Justin Tranter (Semi Precious Weapons), Mike Doernberg and Lou Plaia (Founders, ReverbNation), Ian Rogers (TopSpin), Bruce Houghton (Hypebot), Derek Sivers (CD Baby), Eliott Lefko (GoldenVoice AEG), Swizz Beatz, Just Blaze, Little Steven, Nile Rodgers, Kelly Cutrone (People’s Revolution), Daniel Ek (Spotify), Courtney Holt (MySpace Music), Tim Westegren and Joe Kennedy (Pandora), Ted Cohen (TAG Strategic), Margaret Cho, Tony Van Veen (CDBaby/Diskmakers), John Simson (SoundExchange), Ralph Simon, Tom Jackson (OnStageSuccess), Sway (MTV), Chris Vinson (Bandzoogle), Paul Resnikoff (Digital Music News), Bill Werde (Billboard), Phil Antonaides and Bob Cramer (Nimbit), Vinnie Brown (Naughty by Nature), Eric Garland (Big Champagne), Jay Frank (CMT), Rick Goetz (Musician’s Coaching), Ariel Hyatt (Cyber PR), Linda Lorence Critelli (SESAC), Gwen Lipsky (Sound Thinking), Peter Kafka (All Things Digital), Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour), Marty Diamond (Parardigm Agency), Lisa White (9:30 Club, DC), Sam Hollander (S*A*M & Sluggo), Christina Calio (Microsoft), David Goodman (CBS Interactive) and many more.

The New Music Seminar is the epicenter of a new movement. The NMS is the creative crucible where new ideas are hatched and new collaborations formed. The New Music Seminar is a meeting of the architects of the next music business; the creators, the investors, the technological visionaries, the revolutionaries who are ready to stake their claim in the brand new game.
