Robert Grows Up

Tomorrow I’m heading down to Orlando to work with 17-yr-old singer Robert Pierre. He and his band from Nashville are getting ready for a festival gig down there this weekend.

Four years ago when I first met and worked with Robert, he was a typical 13-yr-old boy with lots of energy and not much experience on stage.

Tom and I have been able to work with him many times over these last 4 years, and the growth we’ve seen in him is amazing! He has become a really good performer and communicator from the stage.

All the work on his show has made Robert very comfortable in front of an audience and working with a full band. He’s become a real leader and has his own ideas now for the show.

Robert’s parents haven’t pushed him. They simply opened up the opportunity and allowed him to experience what goes into being an artist. He has really latched on to all aspects of artistry, from learning how to create moments on stage and speaking to an audience, to writing songs for his CD and working on his vocal technique.

Robert is now a young man and it’s been fun to watch him grow up. When he’s performing he really owns the stage. He’s had the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people at arenas all over the country this last winter and loved every minute of it!

What I like the most about Robert is that joyful childlike spirit I still see coming out when he sings, when he runs across the stage, and when he invites us to sing with him. Our young student has taken the proverbial ball and run with it. THAT makes us very happy!

Want to open up that door for YOUR kids? Our Young Performers Bootcamp is just around the corner but there’s still time to sign up your 12-18 year old!

Luke, what we do is NOT the record business and Tom listening to you won’t get you any closer to a record deal. We can however help you with your performance and have packages for video critiques. Click here for more on that.
You should be working on just getting out there and playing in front of people as much as you can. Let’s just say a label DOES hear your demo or a song on your website. The very next thing they will ask is, ‘When can I see them live?’. Are you ready? They want to know that you can pull it off in front of an audience and see how an audience responds. Can you entertain? Are you nervous or unprepared or immature?
Newsong can tell you it’s all about the live show and not about the record deal these days. You should be doing this because you love it – NOT just to get a deal or be famous.
