Make an Emotional Connection Instead of a Pitch
You’ve heard me talk again and again about the importance of making an emotional connection with your audience. Well, my friend Derek Sivers, founder of CD Baby and Host Baby, recently posted an interesting article about another way to make that connection.
Derek heard about a band that decided to make sure everyone in their audiences walked away with a CD after their concerts. They went to a completely different approach, and it paid off for them in several ways.
The band began to tell their audiences that they wanted each person to leave with one of their CDs, and that if they didn’t have enough money to buy one, they should just take one for free. Not only did the approach help them make a great emotional connection with their audiences, but they also began to make more money in CD sales – 4 times as much, in fact!
And, even more importantly, it helped with making fans. When the band did return engagements to venues, their audience size was doubled.
It’s a great idea! Some of you have may have already tried this; if not, why not give it a try? When you do, let us know how it goes – I’d love to hear from you.
